Actress Jiah Khan, who is known for her supporting role in Ghajini, was found dead in her Mumbai apartment. Her dead body was found by her mother late on Monday night. It is being speculated that she committed suicide as her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
She had made her debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the much controversial Nishabd, which was directed by Ram Gopal Verma. The film didn’t do great commercially but Jiah made her mark as a bold and confident actress. She was also nominated for Filmfare Best Debutant award. She then worked in Ghajini alongside Aamir Khan and Asin, as a supporting actress. She received praise from critics and audiences alike. The movie was a blockbuster hit and broke quite a few records.
The last film that she worked on was, Sajid Khan’s Housefull in which, she was one of the three lead actresses. As of now, it is unclear as to what exactly happened but the police aren’t ruling out homicide. Dia Mirza broke the news of her death on Twitter. Jiah Khan was rumoured to be dating Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab’s son, Suraj Pancholi and he was also the last person she spoke to over the phone before hanging herself
She is also the face of Wrangler jeans, becoming the first ever Wrangler girl in the history of Wrangler, and was the ambassador for Taj Group. She is an ambassador for PETA and with her campaign has helped ban glass coated manja for kite flying that kills and decapitates thousands of birds each year at the kite flying festival in India, as well as lobbying for the banning of the killing of stray dogs by leading a debate and walk to save the dogs in Mumbai.
She is socially conscious and continues to work and help several organizations, whether by giving speeches on World AIDS day, or raising money for relief funds.
